Billy Joel

Billy Joel honored at Carnegie Hall, NYC

I’ll skip to the end and tell you, no Billy Joel did not perform.

No one said it but I know I thought it; I really was hoping to see Billy up on that stage in Carnegie Hall playing the piano with his band. Obviously, health comes before everything, and I respect the decision for Billy to be in attendance up in the world famous balcony of Carnegie Hall to enjoy the artists as they honor him with his musical masterpieces.

No criticism to any performers that night but I will only highlight the acts that made me stand up out of my seat after they sang and the singers that had everyone on their feet.

Yola

I must highlight Sammy Rae and her Ukulele version of “In the Middle of the Night.”  I can think of no better place to perform such a unique interpretation of that song. It was vulnerable and confident, jazz voice, it was complicated and original. I haven’t heard anyone else do anything like what Sammy did in my life.

Sammy Rae

The end of the concert brought out the entire cast to sing “You may be right” yet another Billy smash. The excitement in the performers on stage looked like so much fun, they looked like they were actually have fun, dancing and jumping up and down.
